Tabas

Tabas eine kleine Wüstenstadt mit ca. 35.000 Einwohnern liegt zwischen der Wüste Kaviar und der Wüste Lut. Wir haben der Stadt selbst keine große Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt mit Ausnahme des Golshan Garden. Er gehört zu den 50 schönsten Gärten weltweit und ist ca. 300 Jahre alt. Ein kurzer Besuch war uns der Garten natürlich wert. Wir waren etwas enttäuscht hatten wir doch eine umfangreiche Blütenpracht erwartet. Aber klar die Jahreszeit gab das natürlich nicht her. Eine schöne Überraschung gab es allerdings, eine reihe von freilaufenden Pelikanen und handzahm, ein nettes Fotomotiv.

Tabas, a small desert town with approximately 35,000 residents, is situated between the Kavir Desert and the Lut Desert. Except for the Golshan Garden, which is around 300 years old and ranks among the world's 50 most beautiful gardens, we didn't pay much attention to the city itself. A brief visit to the garden was certainly worthwhile, although we were slightly disappointed as we had expected an extensive display of flowers, which the season didn't permit. However, we were pleasantly surprised by a group of freely roaming pelicans, providing a delightful photo opportunity.

Safran

Das was ich in Iran unbedingt einmal sehen wollte war das Anbaugebiet des Safran. Das liegt in Mashad im Osten des Iran. Dort erfuhren wir, dass das eigentliche Anbauzentrum in Qaen liegt ein gutes Stück südlich von Mashad. Dort angekommen war aber nicht viel von Anbaufeldern zu sehen außer ein paar kleine Flecken die wir schon bei der Herfahrt immer wieder entdeckten.

What I absolutely wanted to see in Iran was the saffron cultivation area. It is located in Mashhad in the east of Iran. There, we learned that the actual cultivation center is in Qaen, a good distance south of Mashhad. However, upon arrival, there wasn't much to see in terms of cultivation fields, except for a few small patches that we had already noticed on the way there.

Qanat

Quanats so nennt man die unteririschen Wasserleitungen hier in Iran ähnlich denen die wir in Marokko besucht haben https://desertman.de/index.php/reise-blog/blog?start=5. Nur haben sie hier gigantische Ausmaße und sind 2500 Jahre alt (Marokko max. 300 Jahre). Und es gibt Hunderte dieser Versorgungsleitungen in Iran. Wir haben einige besucht und auch von den Ausmaßen mit die Größte in Gonabad. 

Quanats are the underground water channels here in Iran, similar to the ones we visited in Morocco (link). However, they have gigantic dimensions here and are 2500 years old (Morocco max. 300 years). And there are hundreds of these supply lines in Iran. We visited some of them, including the largest one in Gonabad.
